THAT(!) will never happen again. yeah, THAT! my wondering whether i submitted my written assignment a hair early or a hair late.

and in fact, i missed my 7:30 pm advanced short form improv class this evening mainly because i VERY NAIVELY believed (at 2:00 pm) that i would cobble together within 4-hours a responsive 500 words (maximum) for the second written assignment of coursera's gamification course. not so much. i had more than enough words, and it was the trimming down that got me flustered beginning at ~ 8:52 PM. (i haz a sad.) and in fact, as part of the process for submitting the assignment, there is a clear reminder on the course website-

"If you do not submit your work before the deadline, you will not be allowed to evaluate the work of your peers and your own work will not be evaluated. Don't wait until the last minute, in case you have unforeseen problems such as power outages. Note that after you submit, you can still make changes and re-submit as long as it's before the deadline -- so submit early."

my unforeseen problem? ... not being able to predict the future. nevertheless, shortly, i will know by 11:59 PM this evening (tick-tock) whether i pressed that all important button early enough to have my assignment evaluated.

and if not, i'll look forward to writing a kick-ass assignment #3 to make up my score on the 1,500 word (maximum) written assignment due september 30th. (tick-tock)

improv @UnDashScripted and SNL ... puppets galore!

at #SFIF ... fun to see (for the first time) several members of the un-scripted theater company (on web, facebook, twitter) creative ensemble. my friend and i really enjoyed their clever bollywood puppet extravaganza from the audience suggestion of "jaws" - yes, their SFIF jaws bollywood puppet fun (over here on ustream, resolved technical difficulties at 14:57 min) was FUN! totally looking forward to their november-december show - history: the musical - with or without puppets - gonna check 'em out.

SNL season premiere ... meanwhile, this weekend's season opener of SNL reminded me of puppet fun. with an introduction to puppetry class led by seth macfarlane's character, it was definitely bill hader's character (anthony peter coleman) and his puppet tony - that got the belly laughs going ...

monty python memories ... i-beam (san francisco, on wiki) - in the '80s. memories of college student night dancing - cheap, strong drinks - videos.

side bar ... back in the day, awesome concerts for way cheap (hovering around $10 give or take - and mostly take). i remember seeing erasure (1987) because my friends and i were near the front, staring up at andy bell's red jockstrap-like costumey thing. ALSO, i remember my girlfriends and i were in the area one evening and HAD TO PEE BIG TIME, so we actually found parking just in front of the i-beam, asked if we could go pee, and they told us we had to pay cover. we paid $7 each (i think) to go to the bathroom and then hung around for the cat heads and the meat puppets (apparently on jan 20,1986 per this poster).

anyway, back to the video clips. AH YES, video clips of movie scenes. well, this fiber break is not for the faint of heart. REALLY! IT'S NOT . if you remember the monty python movie the meaning of life, then you MUST remember mr. creosote and john cleese (as the waiter) with a rather infamous line -

"it's only a wafer thin."

episode 9 - the  HP Intel print challenge, aka"textile-heritage-spigot-of-tears" challenge ... designers were asked to design a textile representing something about them. (question for lifetime/project runway ... was this suppose to be where we were to warm-up to the designers, as if each has a heart and is likable? i'm not falling for it. NO VEN, i will not like you.)  nevertheless, surprisingly, i must admit that some of dmitry's side bar comments were a bit ringtone-worthy statements.

here are a few words/descriptors uttered about designers' prints ... vibrant, traditional, penis, vagina,  crazy, cowboy handkerchiefs, tropical, kindergarten doodle, copulation, crazy table cloths, an homage to a menstrual cycle, maxi-pads, a scrub (nurse), sheet of bird postage stamps, ...

the chosen few ... for epi9, here are each nutkin'rs' predictions, point system explained in this post over here, and the added scoring of

• ADD 1 point for each correct top3 and for each correct bottom3; predict all 3 in a category, ADD 2 points.
• SUBTRACT 0.50 point for each reverse top3 or bottom3 pick.

thank goodness this was just a normal episode - with top3, bott3, and one AUF'd, otherwise the math gets funky, and i have to make up more scoring rules. here are some highlights of picks -

• only 1 nutkin'r - appears to have deja vu moments, with harold's girl choosing all top3. on top of that, ALL positive points.
• last week's tied for 1st each predicted a winner or a loser. 
• only 1 nutkin'r had it out for gunnar in the all the pair 'em ups 
• no one lost points for the bottom3
• all final 3 are in tact, where one nutkin'r got luck that his bonus 4th is still in the game

standings after episode 9 ... the 1st place tie has been broken with harold's girl hopping over zoe's buddy, and pho queen holds down the fort with the other side of the anchor for 5th place. and once again, squirrel and shiny penny dance around 3rd and 4th, respectively. we have a 13 point spread.

• harold's girl + 11 = + 1 points for 1st place (last wk 1st tie) with 51.25 
• zoe's buddy + 9 - 0.5  = + 8.5 points for  2nd place (last wk 1st tie) with 48.75
• squirrel + 10 - 0.5 = + 9.5 points for 3rd place (last wk 4th) with 44.50 
• shiny penny + 6 - 0.5 = + 5.5 points for 4th place (last wk 3rd) with 40.75

PR epi8 - nutkin'rs picks & scores

#ProjectRunway ... (SPOILER) here are episode 8 results - the chosen few picks, episode results, and scores heading into episode 9. recap links will be in a separate post. with this week's episode of  three teams of three, it made for a somewhat interesting episode - somewhat. what i did not enjoy was the amount of air time for gunnar. i was surprised about the amount of air time for elena and alicia. and i WISH there was more tim gunn air time. (I WANT MORE GUNN!)

thanks again to harold's girl not only for texting epi8 results before the west coast viewing but also for chatting a little about the episode during my commute home.

episode 8 - the "fee-for-tee" challenge ... designers had to make money in order to purchase their fabric and notions. they were given arts & crafts stuff & tee shirts. in an attempt to pimp their tee-shirt designs, the 3 teams took the NYC streets to beg negotiate some fee-for-tee. check recaps elsewhere for more details.

the chosen few ... for epi8, here are each nutkin'rs' predictions and then the math explained - point system explained in this post over here. rather than a bottom 3, there was a bottom 6 in epi8, but at least in this episode, someone was AUF'd (awwww - sad face). here are some highlights -

• only 1 nutkin'r - zoe's buddy - predicted the loser
• only 1 nutkin'r - harold's girl - had a bottom 3 with a 3 for 3!

#ProjectRunway ... package deal for episode 7 - the chosen few picks, episode results, and scores heading into episode 8. once again, i will be post-poning the recap links for this episode and last week's episode ven-is-a-butthead-meany-man 6. (just need to gather them) thanks again to harold's girl for texting epi7 results before the west coast viewing.

episode 7 - the "stuart smalley" episode ... i call this episode the "i'm good enough, i'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!" no one was AUF'd, judges considered that everyone stepped up to the challenge despite a bottom 2 judging scene that allowed sequins to be validated. yes, another anti-AUF'd episode. because no one was AUF'd, the "math" for pair 'em ups was simply zero points across the board. HOWEVER, i got cranky because rather than a top3/bot3, PR went for top4/bot2.

the chosen few ... for epi7, here are each nutkin'rs' predictions and then the math explained - point system explained in this post over here. a few adjustments to the original scoring system for epi7 - given there were only two in the bottom rather than three, those who chose who chose both received 2 points. AND with neither of the bottom 2 AUF'd (gunnar and alicia), i was feeling generous, so those nutkin'rs who had either of the losers listed for the bot2 received 0.50 points.
