podcast me! ... in addition to a few podcast staples for my morning commute, including history of philosophy, wtf with marc maron, and the nerdist, i have just wrapped up what is available for dad and the dude (from british tech network). described as -

thanks @HistPhilosophy @nerdist (and also pandora for comedy) for keeping me company during my east bay to downtown SF commute to and from cubeopolis.

back and forth ... in the morning, i wake up easily before 5:30 am, get some meditation in (a few times a week), get ready for cubeopolis, head to paddy's for hello and hot liquid of choice (time permitting) if i drive in (or head to the park n ride if i carpool), and cross a bridge. in the evening, i often leave later than normally, pack up my take-home-with-me-from-cubeopolis stuff, head to the spendy parking lot i parked my car (or the commuter bus terminal), and cross a bridge. and keeping me busy both ways, lately, i've been pinging and ponging between two podcasts, depending on my mood.

serious and cerebral, and yet entertaining ... it has been about peter adamson's history of philosophy (on web, twitter). the podcasts are ~ 15-20 minute mark - easily digestible. and as stated on adamson's site - 

"Peter Adamson, Professor of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy at King's College London, takes listeners through the history of Western philosophy, "without any gaps." funny and entertaining, and yet cerebral ... it has been about chris hardwick's the nerdist podcast (on web, twitter) and over here, also. the podcasts are ~ 60+ minutes, which makes for a great listen when i know i'll be in traffic - - in MAJOR traffic. and as described -

celebrity autobiography ... as part of sf sketchfest, saw the feb 4 show of celebrity autobiography over here. those at our show last night -

creators Eugene Pack and Dayle Reyfel with Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family, on imdb) and his first time with celebrity autobiography, Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live), Luke Perry (Beverly Hills 90210), Fred Willard (Best in Show), Florence Henderson (Brady Bunch) 

- and what a wonderful set of readings. engineerbri (not to be confused with stranger-dangerbri or mustangbri) and i both agreed that one of the many best moments of the readings was laraine newman's cher - when newman bowed her head onto the microphone (BONK!) as part of the celebrity mash-up portion of the show. (and engineerbri will be visiting a bookstore to check out the actual neil sedaka autobiography). a question i (and i'm sure other audience members) had - publishers publish some of this stuff?! HO-LY-SMOKES!

RANDOM THOUGHT ... this reminded me of a website with the actual domain name - help me sell more books than justin bieber - REALLY! check it out OVER HERE. and if you don't know who justin bieber is, here are a few head (face) shots - literally - over here.  am i fixated on justin bieber? not always. just when he's in my mouth for 2 + 2 minutes for oral hygiene. 

(and no, i'm not going to buy bieber's autobiography. 

maybe i'll check it out of the library, or maybe someone will gift it to me, 

but no. i have to spend my money on dental floss.)

7:55 AM, SF Bay Area, CA (Union City, to be more exact)

I went out to dinner and to one of the SF Sketchfest's shows - a live taping of The Nerdist Podcast (with stand-up comedy by the 3 guys on The Nerdist preceding the podcast taping). After the show, which ended around 10 pm, my friend and I were part of a VERY LONG LINE of other nerds and nerdettes who stuck around to meet and greet with two of the podcast guys (Chris Hardwick, Matt Mira). Our turn to meet, greet, get autographs, take pics happened just after midnight. Then I drove my friend home, and I got home around 1:15 AM. (For a little context, my friend and I are pushing 50 years old - EASILY TWICE THE AGE of many of the others around us. We outlasted many who just gave up waiting.) For a normal morning (shower night before), it takes me 10-20 minutes to get ready (face prep, make-up (what little I wear), hair); the longer time is if I'm straightening or blow-drying my hair. If I shower in the morning, then 20-30 minutes.

(YES! i get that i've mentioned the nerdist a couple of times, already, here and here. now i have this to remind me of what happened and the pic to remind me how one looks AFTER a nerdist podcast-autograph-picture-taking moment.) instructions for sending your pic and what to share is in their shout out post.

LOVE the spring 2012 collection and colors! (and i'm crossing my fingers on the operetta brightman and looking forward the continued unveiling of spring '12.)

math oopsie ... in november, i posted that i had 23, as in the prime number - see over here. after reading the post, looking at the pictures, and counting out loud with joanne, while pointing at the screen (which was repeated 2 more times), it WAS actually 22 during the november count. i counted wrong. brain fart.


welcome new vogs ... yesterday evening's the new addition - the bellevue | etta place. and i LOVE  the ribbon laces, so i'll enjoy seeing what other ribbon colors will be fun to mix up. my feet will happily wear the soft white pair. they are described as soft white. it seemed in the lighting there was some faint color behind it - maybe a cream-ish or pink-ish. i'll give it a whirl in natural sunlight and see what's up. - i dunno.

googly eyes ... @eyebombing (on web, facebook, twitter) spotted nearby cubeopolis in downtown san francisco. saw this "big mouth" on a parking meter where motorcycles park.

yup, today i'm santa ... that whole self-gifting thing? i'm in! (it's also known as treating myself.) my gift of choice?

LAUGHTER.

it started this past monday with louis c.k. (over here) and it's continuing through january and february at sf's sketchfest.
 
not-so-good news ... i felt IT coming on, so i'm making use of acetaminophen (aka tylenol), tissue (aka kleenex), sleep, tea, water, and comfort food. missing christmas mass and social/fun at my ninang's place (aka LOTS o' food and love!).

good news ... celebrated christmas with family yesterday - christmas eve lunch, dinner, karaoke, and watching the more skillful niece + nephew on xbox.

couch-potato news ... now it's time to distribute my mini new-found wealth before getting ready to pay for taxes (yes, i'm also practical). although a little late on the take and missing out on already sold-out shows, SO FAR, i have laughter-gifted as follows -

• to gadgetman (and i'm totally available to be your guest! HA!) - on saturday, jan 28, at the regency ballroom - chris hardwick's nerdist podcast live
• moi - on saturday, feb 4, at marines memorial theater - celebrity autobiography: the next chapter (which has jesse tyler ferguson scheduled)

... and still contemplating other laughter moments! meanwhile, gonna listen to the nerdist podcast with david tennant over here ('cuz we likes us some david tennant over here) while i couch-potato some more.

five hard inches ...

boot heels, that is ... from @fluevog, last week my fluevog faith | certitude red clog boots took their virgin voyage into san francisco and cubeopolis. with a 1-inch platform and a 5-inch heel, i had a nifty new view in the cubeopolis maze; in other words, i could see over the cube partitions a l'il more!

"thank you" ... it's what i said quite often for those who complimented my boots. first compliment? male stranger in elevator as i started my day in cubeopolis - 

"wow, those boots are great! i hope they are as comfortable as they are totally cool!"

(great way to start the day!) yes, indeed, they were. admittedly, at least for me (who is not used to wearing heels), i'm not sure if i'd be able to do that walk-all-over-the-city all day and night, but i know i can do so during the work day around the office and a jaunt out for lunch

• nifnaks (on web, shop) - a cube squirrel from felting wook? why not?! i'll pick something up for myself.

cubeopolis frivolity ... for my 48th birthday, a few cubesters bestowed upon me oral care - via a toothbrush, one of the various justin bieber oral care products (over here) for which i had NO idea that such products existed.

choices in the morning ... i now have THIS singing toothbrush in red. if i choose to forgo my regular oralb toothbrush, in the morning, i can brush to baby (over here), and in the evening, i can brush to u smile (over here), or i can do without bieber in my mouth.

MOO-ME! ... @craigyferg @geofftherobot am heading down from SF bay area to see the halloween day taping of the late late show with craig ferguson as part of my 48th halloween birthday gifts to myself!!! (or thirty-eighteenth, as a friend suggested) i am VERY excited - to see the show, though not so much about the drive a bunch of hours yet it is well worth it. totally hoping to touch meet craig ferguson and geoff ... and maybe even secretariat. i will later pull together the little lists a few friends have for the top 7 reasons why i should meet craig ferguson in the intro portion of the show. (7? yes, seven, because it's a prime number.) meanwhile, about that costume i'll have on somehow under my real clothes ...

DIY cow costume resurrected ... as i've done so for some past halloweens, the cow is coming back out of the pasture and will be distributing its methane molecules - via burping or pooping. i'll have to figure out how NOT to be in costume while i'm in costume per the audience rule thing.

(oh, and maybe with a little bit of ammonia, but i still have to get those pom-poms glued molecules together.) i'll have some methane molecules to give away while standing in line and a few extra udders (three to be exact) to tug on!

"burp-utot-cow" persona ... had the dmv allowed a nice standard headshot (or maybe a costume-shot) ... my license would have be more fun. (side note: halloween = birthday)
CH4 methane molecules ... as fashioned by 1 black pom-pom with 4 white pom-poms and SEVERAL of them glued to white pipe cleaners just spewing from my "BURP" ...

"thirsty meg" (or maybe "lonely meg"?) ... l.a.g., dolled up as family guy's meg, was at first somewhat gentle, until she got a bit greedy.

and if you can't quite see them ... there are dingleberries with some methane molecules, also. (they look like little humps on the lower back.) here they are - hiding at night.

it COULD happen once a year ...

... if you don't pay attention to the little date above the little picture of your head. your driver license may be expired (or soon to expire - like really, really soon).

turns out ... my driver license expires today. (i discovered that unintentionally this past wednesday night at dinner.) that means, i'm celebrating a b-day ... this morning ... at the dmv ... in a machine+hand sewn cow costume (which has seen better days) that i swore i'd retire.

cow costume history ... goes like this ...

• 1st time out = cow
• 2nd time out = cow with more fancy cow stuff (a cow bell)
• 3rd time out = "holy cow" ... cow with big glow-in-the-dark cross (no, not flames), a makeshift priest's collar, a rosary, a scapula, and at some point, a make shift halo. (i had a tiny bible, but without pockets (note to self - make at least one pocket), the bible was set aside). and yes, this was stuff worn at the same time.
  
• 4th time out = "mad cow" ... a machine+hand sewn make-shift straight-jacket and those glasses with the crazy eyes hanging off of metal springs (another note to self - make an "escape" hole for each of your arms. turns out you can't eat dinner with your arms wrapped around toward your back. in fact, you can't do much drinking or anything else.)
  

... and THEN there was a hiatus, UNTIL NOW. hopefully someone will have a camera at work (yes, not only will i be in costume at the dmv this morn, i'll be in costume at work.) i am going to try to pull off ...

blog quiet ... from geek-perspective, prior to this post, there certainly has been a dip in my post frequency. and july?! what the heck happened in july? i dunno.

gonna pick up the pace ... nevertheless, we're heading into october, the start of the 4th quarter. so perhaps time for picking up the pace - end of year, birthday thing, 30th high school reunion coming up, holidays, fall weather, pop culture television, ... who knows from where the inspiration will come? well, it was nice to revisit gretchen rubin's 13 tips for actually getting some writing done.
