PR epi10 - nutkin'rs picks & scores

#ProjectRunway ... (SPOILER) here are episode 10 results - the chosen few picks, episode results, and scores heading into episode 11. recap links will be MAY BE are posted by those i mentioned in the first post over here. let's just get to the resulting scores ...

who retained all his original picks?
zoe's buddy garnering 2.5 points which he donated to himself - for 1st place.
without those points, 2nd place harold's girl would have been 1st.
who wants shiny penny to beat zoe's buddy?
5th place pho queen moved shiny penny into 3rd place by donating 2.5 points.
squirrel is in 4th getting ready for her strategery.

fashion week offerings ... once again, here are the designers' offerings compiled by tom and lorenzo's project runway recaps. those that have been AUF'd are ... well, in strikethrough. (avert your eyes)
Collections for: Sonjia | Ven
Collections for: Fabio | Gunnar | Melissa

episode 10 - the  rockettes challenge ... designers were asked to design a rockette outfit (... remember the past seasons similar challenges - figure skating, something with prom dress, blah-blah?)
there were MANY special quotes ... but
6 designers remaining
50% of these peeps will NOT be in the final 3

the chosen few ... for epi9, here are each nutkin'rs' predictions, point system explained in this post over here, and the added scoring of
  • ADD 1 point for each correct top3 and for each correct bottom3; predict all 3 in a category, ADD 2 points.
  • SUBTRACT 0.50 point for each reverse top3 or bottom3 pick.
  • ADD 1.5 points if kept original season winner; ADD 1.0 points if kept original season final 3.
thank goodness this was ANOTHER  normal episode - with top3, bott3, and one AUF'd (and what an AUF it was). here are some highlights of picks -
  • shiny penny earned 5 points for top3 picks, received 2.5 points from pho queen, and had zero (0) negative points (!!!)
  • pho queen decided to give 2.5 points to shiny penny, just because.
  • zoe's buddy moved into first, mainly because of keeping his original picks, otherwise, without the 2.5 points, he would've been 1 point behind harold's girl
  • oh harold's girl, you have been on a steady course in 1st or 2nd place for most of this season - impressive.
  • squirrel is just glad she chose well for the episode's AUF'der.

standings after episode 10 ... the 1st place tie has been broken with harold's girl hopping over zoe's buddy, and pho queen holds down the fort with the other side of the anchor for 5th place. and once again, squirrel and shiny penny dance around 3rd and 4th, respectively. we have a 13 point spread.
  • zoe's buddy + 7.5 +2.5 - 0.5  = + 9.5 points for  1st place (last wk 2nd) with 58.25
  • harold's girl + 6 - 0.5 = + 5.5 points for 2nd place (last wk 1st) with 56.75
  • shiny penny + 11.5 + 2.5  = + 14 points for 2rd place (last wk 4th) with 54.75
  • squirrel + 7 - 1 = + 6 points for 4th place (last wk 3rd) with 50.50
  • pho queen + 5 - 2.5 - 1 = + 1.5 points for 5th place (last wk 5th) with 39.75
tomorrow for epi11... i will survey out this evening. not sure how to approach scoring for top3 and bot3, thinking i should do something different.

dear #gamification12

THAT(!) will never happen again. yeah, THAT! my wondering whether i submitted my written assignment a hair early or a hair late.

and in fact, i missed my 7:30 pm advanced short form improv class this evening mainly because i VERY NAIVELY believed (at 2:00 pm) that i would cobble together within 4-hours a responsive 500 words (maximum) for the second written assignment of coursera's gamification course. not so much. i had more than enough words, and it was the trimming down that got me flustered beginning at ~ 8:52 PM. (i haz a sad.) and in fact, as part of the process for submitting the assignment, there is a clear reminder on the course website-
"If you do not submit your work before the deadline, you will not be allowed to evaluate the work of your peers and your own work will not be evaluated. Don't wait until the last minute, in case you have unforeseen problems such as power outages. Note that after you submit, you can still make changes and re-submit as long as it's before the deadline -- so submit early."
my unforeseen problem? ... not being able to predict the future. nevertheless, shortly, i will know by 11:59 PM this evening (tick-tock) whether i pressed that all important button early enough to have my assignment evaluated.
(that all important button)
and if not, i'll look forward to writing a kick-ass assignment #3 to make up my score on the 1,500 word (maximum) written assignment due september 30th. (tick-tock)

UPDATE
(12:05 AM, Sept 17)
PHEW!!!
this means i was a hair line on time.

f|break: puppet me

improv @UnDashScripted and SNL ... puppets galore!

at #SFIF ... fun to see (for the first time) several members of the un-scripted theater company (on web, facebook, twitter) creative ensemble. my friend and i really enjoyed their clever bollywood puppet extravaganza from the audience suggestion of "jaws" - yes, their SFIF jaws bollywood puppet fun (over here on ustream, resolved technical difficulties at 14:57 min) was FUN! totally looking forward to their november-december show - history: the musical - with or without puppets - gonna check 'em out.

SNL season premiere ... meanwhile, this weekend's season opener of SNL reminded me of puppet fun. with an introduction to puppetry class led by seth macfarlane's character, it was definitely bill hader's character (anthony peter coleman) and his puppet tony - that got the belly laughs going ...
from NBC's SNL clip over here
enjoy this fiber break with introduction to puppetry (over here)
for ~ 5:12 min while warming up to tony (the puppet)

i'm clark, and i like biscuits and waffles

f|break: mr. creosote

mr. creosote
monty python's the meaning of life
monty python memories ... i-beam (san francisco, on wiki) - in the '80s. memories of college student night dancing - cheap, strong drinks - videos.

side bar ... back in the day, awesome concerts for way cheap (hovering around $10 give or take - and mostly take). i remember seeing erasure (1987) because my friends and i were near the front, staring up at andy bell's red jockstrap-like costumey thing. ALSO, i remember my girlfriends and i were in the area one evening and HAD TO PEE BIG TIME, so we actually found parking just in front of the i-beam, asked if we could go pee, and they told us we had to pay cover. we paid $7 each (i think) to go to the bathroom and then hung around for the cat heads and the meat puppets (apparently on jan 20,1986 per this poster).

anyway, back to the video clips. AH YES, video clips of movie scenes. well, this fiber break is not for the faint of heart. REALLY! IT'S NOT . if you remember the monty python movie the meaning of life, then you MUST remember mr. creosote and john cleese (as the waiter) with a rather infamous line -
"it's only a wafer thin."

enjoy (?) a fiber break with mr. creosote (over here)
for ~ 5.43 min and a reminder about gluttony (?)
another bucket for monsieur ...
and here is where IT ALL begins
(~ 4:08 min into the clip)

MAÎTRE D:
And finally, monsieur, a wafer-thin mint.
MR. CREOSOTE:
Nah.
MAÎTRE D:
Oh, sir, it's only a tiny, little, thin one.
MR. CREOSOTE:
No. Fuck off. I'm full.
MAÎTRE D:
Oh, sir. Hmm?
MR. CREOSOTE:
[groan]

MAÎTRE D:
It's only a wafer thin.

MR. CREOSOTE:
Look, I couldn't eat another thing. I'm absolutely stuffed. Bugger off.
MAÎTRE D:
Oh, sir, just-- just one.
MR. CREOSOTE:
[groaning] All right. Just one.
MAÎTRE D:
Just the one, monsieur. Voilà.
MR. CREOSOTE:
[groaning]
MAÎTRE D:
Bon appétit.
MR. CREOSOTE:
[groaning]
[suspenseful music]

MAÎTRE D:
Thank you, sir, and now, here's ze check.

PR epi9 - nutkin'rs picks & scores

#ProjectRunway ... (SPOILER) here are episode 9 results - the chosen few picks, episode results, and scores heading into episode 10. recap links will be MAY BE in a separate post. let's just get to the resulting scores ...
WHOA!!! it's a 13 point spread.
1st place harold's girl with zoe's buddy just 2.5 behind
then the pack behind - squirrelshiny pennypho queen

fashion week offerings ... thanks to tom and lorenzo's project runway recaps, here are the designers' fashion week runway offerings.
Collections for: Sonjia | Ven
Collections for: Fabio | Gunnar | Melissa
Collections for: Christopher, Dmitry, Elena
(really, some of you all?! okay.)

episode 9 - the  HP Intel print challenge, aka"textile-heritage-spigot-of-tears" challenge ... designers were asked to design a textile representing something about them. (question for lifetime/project runway ... was this suppose to be where we were to warm-up to the designers, as if each has a heart and is likable? i'm not falling for it. NO VEN, i will not like you.)  nevertheless, surprisingly, i must admit that some of dmitry's side bar comments were a bit ringtone-worthy statements.

here are a few words/descriptors uttered about designers' prints ... vibrant, traditional, penis, vagina,  crazy, cowboy handkerchiefs, tropical, kindergarten doodle, copulation, crazy table cloths, an homage to a menstrual cycle, maxi-pads, a scrub (nurse), sheet of bird postage stamps, ...

7 in 10 of 10
7 designers heading into episode 10 of season 10
the chosen few ... for epi9, here are each nutkin'rs' predictions, point system explained in this post over here, and the added scoring of
  • ADD 1 point for each correct top3 and for each correct bottom3; predict all 3 in a category, ADD 2 points.
  • SUBTRACT 0.50 point for each reverse top3 or bottom3 pick.
thank goodness this was just a normal episode - with top3, bott3, and one AUF'd, otherwise the math gets funky, and i have to make up more scoring rules. here are some highlights of picks -
  • only 1 nutkin'r - appears to have deja vu moments, with harold's girl choosing all top3. on top of that, ALL positive points.
  • last week's tied for 1st each predicted a winner or a loser.
  • only 1 nutkin'r had it out for gunnar in the all the pair 'em ups
  • no one lost points for the bottom3
  • all final 3 are in tact, where one nutkin'r got luck that his bonus 4th is still in the game
episode 9 predictions and results
standings after episode 9 ... the 1st place tie has been broken with harold's girl hopping over zoe's buddy, and pho queen holds down the fort with the other side of the anchor for 5th place. and once again, squirrel and shiny penny dance around 3rd and 4th, respectively. we have a 13 point spread.
  • harold's girl + 11 = + 1 points for 1st place (last wk 1st tie) with 51.25
  • zoe's buddy + 9 - 0.5  = + 8.5 points for  2nd place (last wk 1st tiewith 48.75
  • squirrel + 10 - 0.5 = + 9.5 points for 3rd place (last wk 4th) with 44.50
  • shiny penny + 6 - 0.5 = + 5.5 points for 4th place (last wk 3rd) with 40.75
  • pho queen + 6 - 0.5 = + 5.5 points for 5th place (last wk 5th) with 38.25
next week epi10 ... nutkin'rs can change their winner, fan fave (need to pick one), and final 3 without subtracting any points.
epi10 ...

PR epi8 - nutkin'rs picks & scores

#ProjectRunway ... (SPOILER) here are episode 8 results - the chosen few picks, episode results, and scores heading into episode 9. recap links will be in a separate post. with this week's episode of  three teams of three, it made for a somewhat interesting episode - somewhat. what i did not enjoy was the amount of air time for gunnar. i was surprised about the amount of air time for elena and alicia. and i WISH there was more tim gunn air time. (I WANT MORE GUNN!)

thanks again to harold's girl not only for texting epi8 results before the west coast viewing but also for chatting a little about the episode during my commute home.
TIE for 1st place (aka 1st/2nd positions) - zoe's buddy & harold's girl
point spread increased by 1 more point for a spread of 7.50 points
squirrel and shiny penny switched positions
pho queen is handing in there
episode 8 - the "fee-for-tee" challenge ... designers had to make money in order to purchase their fabric and notions. they were given arts & crafts stuff & tee shirts. in an attempt to pimp their tee-shirt designs, the 3 teams took the NYC streets to beg negotiate some fee-for-tee. check recaps elsewhere for more details.
8 designers left heading into episode 9
the chosen few ... for epi8, here are each nutkin'rs' predictions and then the math explained - point system explained in this post over here. rather than a bottom 3, there was a bottom 6 in epi8, but at least in this episode, someone was AUF'd (awwww - sad face). here are some highlights -
  • only 1 nutkin'r - zoe's buddy - predicted the loser
  • only 1 nutkin'r - harold's girl - had a bottom 3 with a 3 for 3!
  • all nutkin'rs had only 1 correctly predicted top3
  • all nutkin'rs' predicted winners and final 3/4 are still in tact
episode 8 predictions
(good showing harold's girl!)
standings after episode 8 ... while zoe's buddy  is holding on to 1st place, he has company - harold's girl. yup! scoot over. shiny penny inched by 0.25 point ahead of squirrel, who is moving down in standing from 1st, 2nd, and now 4th place. pho queen is just 2.25 from 4th place - she can move up! and now we have a point spread of 7.50 points. now for the math!
  • zoe's buddy + 8 - 1.5  = + 6.5 points for  1st place TIE (last wk 1st) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 1 (predicted the loser would be alicia) + 3 (predicted alicia in the pair 'em ups) + 1 (predicted one of the top 3) + 2 (predicted two for the bottom 3) - 1 (predicted two in reverse in the top) - 0.50 (predicted one in reverse in the bottom).
  • harold's girl + 10 - 1 = + 9 points for 1st place TIE (last wk 3rd) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 3 (predicted alicia in the pair 'em ups) + 1 (predicted one of the top 3) + 3 (predicted three for the bottom 3) + 2 (BONUS for all bot3) - 1 (predicted two in reverse in the top).
  • shiny penny + 7 - 1.50 = + 5.5 points for 3rd place (last wk 4th) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 3 (predicted alicia in the pair 'em ups) + 1 (predicted one of the top 3) + 2 (predicted two for the bottom 3) - 1 (predicted two in reverse in the top) - 0.50 (predicted one in reverse in the bottom).
  • squirrel + 5 - 2 = + 3 points for 4th place (last wk 2nd) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 2 (predicted alicia in the pair 'em ups) + 1 (predicted one of the top 3) + 1 (predicted one for the bottom 3) - 1 (predicted two in reverse in the top) - 1 (predicted two in reverse in the bottom).
  • pho queen + 7 - 1.50 = + 5.5 points for 3rd place (last wk 4th) ...

PR epi7 - picks and scores

#ProjectRunway ... package deal for episode 7 - the chosen few picks, episode results, and scores heading into episode 8. once again, i will be post-poning the recap links for this episode and last week's episode ven-is-a-butthead-meany-man 6. (just need to gather them) thanks again to harold's girl for texting epi7 results before the west coast viewing.
AMAZING rise to the top by zoe's buddy!
now a 6.5 point spread between 1st and 5th
(details of math in this post)
harold's girl
manages to keep her pace while squirrel lags a bit

we're cheering on shiny penny and pho queen - tides change!

episode 7 - the "stuart smalley" episode ... i call this episode the "i'm good enough, i'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!" no one was AUF'd, judges considered that everyone stepped up to the challenge despite a bottom 2 judging scene that allowed sequins to be validated. yes, another anti-AUF'd episode. because no one was AUF'd, the "math" for pair 'em ups was simply zero points across the board. HOWEVER, i got cranky because rather than a top3/bot3, PR went for top4/bot2.

ONCE AGAIN (!!!)
9 fashiontestants heading into episode 8
4 women, 4 men, 1 butthead-man
the chosen few ... for epi7, here are each nutkin'rs' predictions and then the math explained - point system explained in this post over here. a few adjustments to the original scoring system for epi7 - given there were only two in the bottom rather than three, those who chose who chose both received 2 points. AND with neither of the bottom 2 AUF'd (gunnar and alicia), i was feeling generous, so those nutkin'rs who had either of the losers listed for the bot2 received 0.50 points.
nutkin'rs predictions

standings after episode 7 ... once again, nutkin'rs were shuffled around. every nutkin'rs' final 3s remain (one point all around). HOWEVER, this epi7 picks resulted in a 6.5 point spread between 1st and 5th place. and quite an amazing show for zoe's buddy who scored ONLY positive points.
  • zoe's buddy + 8.5  = + 8.5 points for  1st place (last wk tied 4th/5th) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 1 (predicted the winnder would be christopher) + 0.50 (bonus for predicting alicia as the loser) + 2 (predicted 2 of the bottom 2) + 2 (predicted 2 of the bottom 2) + 2 (bonus two for both bottom 3). WOW! no negative points. AMAZING!
  • squirrel + 6 - 1.5 = + 4.5 points for 2nd place (last wk 1st) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) - 1 (predicted loser would be christopher, but he was the winner) + 1 (predicted one in top 3) + 2 (predicted two in the bottom) + 2 (bonus two for both bottom 3) - 0.50 (predicted one in reverse in the bottom). after seeing gunnar in the bottom,
  • harold's girl + 6.5 - 1 = + 5.5 points for 3rd place (last wk 3rd) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 0.50 (bonus for predicting alicia as the loser) + 1 (predicted 1 of the top 4) + 2 (predicted 2 of the bottom 2) + 2 (bonus two for both bottom 3) - 0.50 (predicted one in reverse in the top) - 0.50 (predicted one in reverse in the bottom).
  • shiny penny + 4 - 0.50 = + 3.5 points for 4th place (last wk 2nd) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 2 (predicted two of the top 4) + 1 (predicted one in bottom 2) - 0.50 (predicted one in reverse in the bottom).
  • pho queen + 3.5 - 1.5 = + 2 points for 5th place (last wk tied 4th/5th) ... + 1 (final 3/4 in tact) + 0.50 (bonus for predicting alicia as the loser) + 1 (predicted 1 of the top 4) + 1 (predicted 1 of the bottom 2) - 0.50 (predicted one in reverse in the top) - 1 (predicted two in reverse in the bottom). it was a tough episode for pho queen, but tides can shift!
get ready for epi 8 ... you can check out the preview video over here (on blogging project runway)
